Odisha: Iron Ore Dispatch of Merchant Mines Fall 7% M-o-M in Jan’17

Iron ore dispatch by Odisha based merchant mines fell further in Jan’17 and was recorded at 5.06 MnT against 5.42 MnT in Dec’16. The figures exclude movement for export and dispatches of captive miners – SAIL, Tata Steel & JSPL.This is for the 3rd consecutive month that Odisha merchant mine’s iron ore dispatches to domestic market have witnessed downturn.

Among Odisha’s merchant iron ore miners – Rungta Mines dispatched highest quantity of ore followed by Serajuddin Mines and KJS Ahluwalia.

Rungta Mines’ iron ore dispatches increased marginally by 2% M-o-M to 1.43 MnT in Jan’17 compared to 1.40 MnT in Dec’16.

Serajuddin Mines dispatched 0.83 MnT iron ore in Jan’17 compared to 0.89 MnT in Dec’16, down 7% M-o-M. Iron ore dispatches of KJS Ahluwalia remained stable on monthly premises and stood at 0.60 MnT in Jan’17.

Iron ore dispatches of state owned miner – OMC moved up by 9% M-o-M to 0.38 MnT in Jan’17.

Iron ore rake availability in domestic market still a matter of concern – Trade sources shared that iron ore rake availability for domestic market is still a problem specially in eastern region of India. Increased rake movement of iron ore & pellet exports over higher global prices has attracted exporters. Increased rake movement for exports has reduced the rake availability for domestic market.

So far in this fiscal (till Jan’17), Odisha based merchant miners have dispatched 51.06 MnT iron ore.
