Odisha Government Clears 3rd renewal of Tata’s Sukinda Chrome Mine

In accordance with the deadline set by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India to take decision on the third renewal of Tata Steel’s Sukinda mines, the government of Odisha has decided to consider the 3rd renewal of the Sukinda Chrome mines 0f 406 hectares in favor of Tata Steel for a period of 20 years. A mining lease deed will be executed within six months but subject to fulfilling of several conditions.

As per the information submitted by the company, its annual captive Chrome ore requirement is 4.25 MnT and for 30 years it’ll be 12.77 MnT. Meanwhile the company is going to commission phase-1 of its Ferro chrome plant with 55,000 MT capacities by April 2015 and has plans to increase its capacity further. In view of this, combined Chrome ore requirement of the three plants of the company would increase to 6.14 MnT and for 30 years it’ll be 18.42 MnT as against a reserve of 19.16 MnT.
