A crucial
meeting of the ministerial panel on raw material supply to state based
industries is scheduled to be held today afternoon. Last month Odisha government notified mandatory sale of 50% iron ore production to local industries. This time the panel has
invited the representatives of several stakeholder groups including the Odisha
Sponge Iron Manfacturer’s Association (OSIMA), Eastern Zone mining
Association,(EZMA),The All Odisha Steel Federation (AOSF),the Kalinganagarar
Industries Association.
The Odisha
Government has formed the ministerial panel headed by the finance minister
Prasanna Acharya and Steel and mines minister Rajnikant Singh and industries
minister Niranjan Pujari as members in last October to finalise a suitable policy
for supply of raw material to odisha industrie.
Since the panel
is preparing itself to submit the report by the end of this month, today’s
meeting bears importance. On the other hand after the allegation by the steel
Federation of cartelisation by the miners, the two sides are going to encounter
each other at the meeting for the first time.
Private iron ore miners in Odisha comment that they will consider January prices after this meeting. Although with 50% sale compulsion stocks are piling up at mines head and chances are high that some cut may be observed.
