Odisha Chrome Ore Dispatches Decrease by a Substantive 35% in Apr’18

Dispatches of chrome ore by Odisha miners have decreased substantially by around 35% in Apr’18 against Mar’18.

Odisha contributes entirely towards Indian Chrome Ore production. TATA Steel, being, one of the largest miners in the region dispatched 113,076 MT of chrome ore in Apr’18 against 146,177 MT in Mar’18. The company has witnessed a substantial decrease of about 23% in the dispatch of the commodity on M-o-M basis. TATA Steel held 18,025 MT for captive consumption in Apr’18, which is 16% lower to what it was in Mar’18.

OMC also recorded a decrease of 23% M-o-M in its Mar’18 Chrome Ore dispatches. OMC dispatched 76,126 MT of Chrome Ore in Apr’18 against 98,378 MT in Mar’18. B.C. Mohanty & Sons also registered a massive decrease of 84% while Saurabhil Chromite Mines witnessed a substantial fall of 44% on M-o-M basis on Apr’18.

Ferro Chrome demand has been on a continuous downtrend in the month gone by and was likely the chief contributing factor towards shrinking Chrome Ore demand.
