SteelMint assessed that non-coking coal imports to India fell further by 13% M-o-M and by 26.7% Y-o-Y.
India, one of the giant in coal imports, has witnessed a major fall in non-coking imports in Sept’15. It is the lowest since last 18 months, according to data available with SteelMint. The country imported about 11 MnT of non-coking coal in Sept’15 against 11.6 MnT of the preceding month; registering a downfall of 12.6%.
Increasing domestic coal production in India, sluggish demand and depreciating Indian currency have influenced Indian buyers to trim their imports. Rising domestic supply has been provided enough to fulfill coal demand for power producers.
As per SteelMint’s data analysis, total coal import to the country was assessed at 15.1 MnT; less by 11% M-o-M.
Leading exporters of non-coking coal in Sept’15
Indonesia and South Africa were the major exporters to India in September. Indonesia exported about 7 MnT of non-coking coal, registering a decline of 14% against the previous month. South Africa exported about 2.3 MnT non-coking coal in Sept’15.
Adani Enterprise imported about 1.3 MnT non-coking coal and was the top importer for the month. Mundra Port in WCI received the highest quantity of 1.5 MnT imported non-coking coal among all major Indian ports against 2.8 MnT in Aug’15.
