According to Mr. C.S. Verma, Chairman at NMDC, “rains impacted the production in a major way during September and sales was quite low. Total output by end of Quarter 4 may be 27 mt (million tons), which was 27.26 mt last year”.
Production from April to September reduced to 12.24 mt at NMDC, from 13.5 mt previously.
Iron ore available in e-auctions is available in less quantity and of is low quality. This will result in rise of iron ore imports as Steel producers are already facing shortage of iron ore from states like Odisha, Karnataka and Goa.
There might be a shortage of 30 mt of iron ore by March 2013, looking at the present scenario.
