“Iron Ore Railway Movement”
NMDC’s Iron ore supply to Chhattisgarh plants has dropped by 37% since Jan’14.
NMDC, a state-owned and India’s largest Iron ore miner, supply to Chhattisgarh Steel Mills have dropped by 37% from Jan’14 to Apr’14, according to special report on Iron Ore Railway Movement, managed by SteelMint & Steel-360.
It was reported that NMDC dispatched 74 rakes of Iron ore in the month of January, 2014 which has come down to 46 rakes in the month of April from its Bailadila mines located in Chhattisgarh.
NMDC produces around 20 MnT of Iron ore from its Chhattisgarh mines, out of which large portion is sold to Essar, RINL, KIOCL, JSW & Welspun. However, some quantity is reserved for steel plants located in Chhattisgarh.

SteelMint assessed that with falling Iron ore and Pellet prices in Odisha; Chhattisgarh based millers have switched their purchases from Odisha. Chhattisgarh is the second largest Sponge producer after Odisha and has an installed capacity of around 9 MnT.
Recently, NMDC cuts Iron ore lump prices upto INR 200/MT for the month of May’14, on account of poor off take.
