India’s largest iron ore producer – NMDC recorded rise in iron ore production by 33% to 2.43 mn t in Oct’20 as compared to 1.83 mn t in Sep’20. However, the output fell 2% on a yearly basis compared to 2.49 mn t in Oct’19.
Out of the total 2.43 mn t, Chhattisgarh mines produced major chunk of material at 1.82 mn t and Karnataka mines produced 0.61 mn t.
The miner had increased prices by 6-7% for Oct’20. NMDC was heard to have been facing certain supply issues at its five mines in Chhattisgarh towards early October. Inclement weather conditions – persistent rainfall and fog – have affected the NMDC’s production volumes.
NMDC iron ore production for Apr-Oct’20 depicted 8% fall to 14.66 mn t as against 15.95 mn t for Apr-Oct’19.
Sales up by 19% m-o-m in Oct’20
NMDC total iron ore sales for the month of Oct’20 recorded at 2.52 mn t, and on monthly basis, sales recorded a rise of 19% to 2.52 mn t against 2.11 mn t in Sep’20.
However, on yearly basis it was down by 3% as against 2.61 mn t in Oct’19. NMDC (C.G) contributed total sales at 2.04 mn t and remaining 0.48 mn t contributed by Karnataka mines.
The total iron ore sales for CY20 (Apr-Oct) stands at 15.43 mnt, 10% decline as compared to 17.14 mn t in CY19(Apr-Oct).
