Nepal, the most favorable export destination of Indian Billets witnessed surge in its monthly billet imports from India and reported the higher volume of imports in April 2018 since August 2017.
As per customs data maintained by SteelMint, Nepal imported about 102,529 MT Billets in Apr’18 (15th Mar to 14th Apr). Prior to this the higher volume of imports recorded during Aug’17 (15th Jul to 14th Aug) at 105,515 MT. Thus, imports reached high of 7 month’s and on monthly premises it rose about 8% in Apr’18 as against 95,263 MT in March’18 (15th Feb to 14th Mar).
Nepal’s re-rollers have continue to raise billet sourcing from India in line with capacity expansions with the Govt’s development plans for the land-locked nation.
Meanwhile, the country’s Sponge iron import from India assessed drastic fall of about 80% M-o-M and stood at 7,374 MT in Apr 2018 (15th Mar to 14th Apr) as compared to 13,320 MT in Mar 2018 (15th Feb to 14th Mar).
Nepal is also largely imports the Finished steel products over healthy domestic consumption and less availability of variety of finished products.
Flat Steel Imports Up: The country has imported about 64,509 MT Flat steel in the month of Apr 2018 (15th Mar to 14th Apr) which was in Mar 2018 (15th Feb to 14th Mar) recorded at 57,792 MT; gain by more than 11% M-o-M.
Long Steel Imports Fall: The country’s long steel imports registered at 28,408 MT in Apr 2018 (15th Mar to 14th Apr), down by 17% M-o-M as against 33,414 MT in Mar 2018 (15th Feb to 14th Mar).
