- Rebar prices increased amid firmer regional prices, while construction demand remained monsoon-affected.
- Demand is expected to improve as rainfall eases, supporting prices in coming weeks.
Nepal’s rebar prices increased by NPR 500/t w-o-w to NPR 76,000/t for cash transactions, while bank-guarantee deals were assessed at NPR 78,000-80,000/t. The increase reflects firmer regional steel prices and improving market sentiment.
Construction activity remains subdued due to the ongoing monsoon, which continues to disrupt project execution and transportation in several regions. However, market participants expect demand to gradually improve as rainfall eases, particularly from infrastructure and construction projects.
Meanwhile, IF-EAF wire rod prices increased by $5/t w-o-w to around $530/t CNF Raxaul, while billet prices rose $8/t to around $448/t CNF Raxaul, providing modest cost-side support to downstream steel products.
Outlook: Nepal’s steel market is expected to remain firm in the near term, supported by higher regional input costs and rising wire rod and billet prices. A sustained improvement in construction activity after the monsoon could provide further upside to rebar demand and prices.
