Nepal rebar market remains cautious despite weekly price increase

  • Rebar prices increased NPR 500/t w-o-w, supported by firmer transaction levels.
  • Monsoon and sluggish construction activity continue to constrain demand and buying sentiment.

Nepal’s rebar prices increased by NPR 500/t ($4/t) w-o-w to NPR 74,000-75,000/t ($611-625/t) for cash transactions, while bank-guarantee deals stood at NPR 76,000-77,000/t ($625-639/t). Despite the weekly price increase, overall market sentiment remains cautious, with buyers maintaining a wait-and-watch approach amid weak consumption. Ongoing monsoon conditions and slow construction activity continue to limit demand and restrict market momentum. Market participants expect construction activity to improve gradually once rainfall eases. Meanwhile, IF-EAF wire rod prices increased to around $520/t CNF Raxaul, reflecting firmer regional pricing. Billet prices remained stable at around $432/t CNF Raxaul, providing limited cost pressure on downstream products. Overall, Nepal’s steel market remains subdued, with gradual price gains but demand recovery still awaited.
