Amid prevailing lockdown restrictions Nepal’s steel mills are running at 30-40% capacity, as per SteelMint reports. Demand is stagnant and supply-demand happens to have balanced out resulting in stability in rebar prices despite a slight decline in billet import prices from India. Fresh rebar (10-16 mm) offers by mid-sized mills are hovering at NPR 91,000/t ($803), while major mills and premium brands are quoting NPR 94,000/t ($797). Prices are exw, excluding VAT and ED. Inline billet import offers have dropped by $10-15/t (w-o-w) to $580-585/t, exw Durgapur (Eastern India), equivalent to $605-610/t CPT Nepal, delivery via road.
