MMTC controlled steel company Neelachal Ispat Nigam Ltd (NNL) has achieved the best ever despatch of saleable pig iron of 4,190 tonnes from its Kalinganagar plant in Odisha on July 24. In achieving this feat, NINL edged past its previous best of 3,718 tonnes on November 26, 2015.
The steel PSU where Odisha government undertakings- Odisha Mining Corporation (OMC) and Industrial Promotion & Investment Corporation of Odisha Ltd (Ipicol) have minority stakes, has been recording sharp increases in production after completing its blast furnace capital repair work. The blast furnace resumed operations in April 2018 after the repair work spanning over three months. NINL has announced plans to foray into the production of steel billets, TMT bars and wire rods in this financial year. To cater to the growing demand for despatch of its products, NINL has already started upgrading its logistics facilities.
In June this year, NINL logged its best ever production figures in hot metal and pig iron at 74,960 tonnes and 69,780 tonnes respectively. During May-June 2018, the company has attained 29.65% growth in production over the comparable period of last year.
