The TDP has objected transportation of coal by road from the general cargo berth in Visakhapatnam Port. TDP leader and former minister Bandaru Satyanarayana Murthy, Urban president Vasupalli Ganesh Kumar and Harshavardhan at a press conference opposed any further transportation of coal by road stating that it would increase the pollution level.
Coal transport by road has put a halt on the installation of green terminal at outer harbour(area of west). A.P. High Court is yet to consider a petition filed by Vizag Sea Port Limited in which Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited has said that the proposal would now go to the AP Pollution Control Board for its approval.
Vizag General Cargo Berth Private Limited in a meeting said that approval for any such move should not be given and if necessary should fight it legally as it was the board's duty to prevent pollution.
The high court had ruled that following the amicable settlement of the issue between the two parties and the respondent Visakhapatnam Port Trust, the interim arrangements are to continue pending completion of the dredging operations in the inner harbour.
