According to the customs data, Mongolian monthly coal export has declined on low coal buying from its chief consumer China.
Mongolian Coal exports decreased 5% M-o-M to 2.28 MnT in Sep’17 compared with 2.39 MnT in Aug’17. Exports were also 11% lower on the year compared with 2.55 MnT in Sep’16.
Of the total coal exports in Sep’17, Bituminous coal share was 2.15 MnT while Anthracite coal amount to 0.02 MnT during the month.
Total export from Mongolia during the first 9 months increased 58% Y-o-Y to 25.53 MnT in comparison with the exports of 16.18 MnT recorded during Jan’16-Sep’16. Mongolian coal exports in CY17 have significantly increased after China had imposed coal ban on North Korea.
Total coal exports from Mongolia in CY17 till September has almost reached the level of total yearly export of 25.71 MnT recorded in CY16, on increased buying from China.
Major Coal Importers:
Chinese coal import fell 5% M-o-M to 2.26 MnT in Sep’17 in comparison with 2.37 MnT in Aug’17.
However, total coal import from the country has jumped 58% Y-o-Y to 25.12 MnT during the Jan’17-Sep’17 period in comparison with 15.93 MnT coal imported during the same period in 2016. China has acquired 98% of the total coal exported from Mongolia in CY17.
UK had imported the remaining coal quantity of 0.02 MnT in Sep’17, whose yearly total has reached 0.41 MnT in CY17.
