Mongolia: Coal Exports Down 5% Y-o-Y in Oct’19

Mongolian coal exports have decreased 5% on the year to 3.7 MnT in Oct’19 as against 3.91 MnT noted in Oct’18. However, coal volumes were almost stable on the month as compared with the levels attained in Sep’19.

The y-o-y drop witnessed in coal exports reflected the lower output last month, as coal production by the country was marked 24% lower on the year at 4.435 MnT in Oct’19, data provided by National Statistical Office of Mongolia showed.

The latest decline was the first to be seen in the past 4 months. Incidentally, total coal exports have increased 5% Y-o-Y to 32.34 MnT in the first 10 months of CY19, which accounts for a significant share in country’s earning from exports.

Notably, the statistical report from Mongolian government asserted that the rise of USD 583.9 Million churned out in country’s export earnings during the 10-month period was primarily due to the increases of USD 309.2 Million generated from export sale of bituminous coal.

Country-wise Coal Exports:
