Ministry of Mines has permitted uninterrupted coal mining and transportation to sustain industries requiring continuous operation.
It is pertaining to note that the government has issued guidelines vide order no 40-3/2020 DM-I (A) for implementing lock-down measures to combat COVID-19. However, industry establishments which require continuous process were exempted provided they had obtained permission from the state government.
Now, with a view to facilitate raw material supply/movement to ensure operation at these plants, the ministry has made amendment in the order issued earlier.
The amendment made under sub clause (c) to the clause 5, exempts “coal and mineral production, transportation, supply of explosives and activities incidental to mining operations.”
Despite including coal as an essential commodity, there were issues with its smooth functioning, hence in order to clear the airs the recent directives have been issued.
The ministry has advised state governments to facilitate measures to ensure continuity of operations of Steel, Aluminium, Copper, Cement and other such plants during the lock-down period, given that preventing interruptions to mineral production and transportation has been addressed.
