Met Coke Imports in India Up 51.76% M-o-M in Aug’18

Indian metallurgical coke imports rose by 51.76% to 0.46 million tonnes (MnT) in Aug’18, compared with 0.3 MnT in Jul’18, as per the vessel lineup data compiled by CoalMint Research.

On a year-on-year basis, the Aug’18 imports have increased over 69% from 0.27 MnT in Aug’17.

Major Coal Exporters to India:

A country-wise break-up of the monthly import data reveals that the major proportion of the shipments continued to be originated from China, accounting for approximately 36.8% share.

However, Indian met coke imports from China fell by 14.3% M-o-M in Aug’18.

Following China, Poland accounted for around 14.4% share of the Indian met coke imports in Aug’18.

Met coke imports from Poland rose by about 7.2% M-o-M in Aug’18.

Imports from Colombia increased 35.3% and constituted 12.9% in the share of the total met coke imports in India during Aug’18.

Among the various ports in India, the Paradip port had handled the highest volume of import traffic during the month of Aug’18; followed by the Krishnapatnam and Mormugao ports.
