BHP Billiton, the behemoth in Met coal production, produced 43.8 MnT in 2015. The company has registered a growth of about 6% in Q4 2015 against the same period of 2014.
Incessant decline in Met coal prices has not primarily rack up usurious fall in production. SteelMint assessed that all the mining majors have either registered a marginal fall in production or remain stable during fourth quarter of 2015.
BHP Billiton produced 11 MnT of Met coal in December quarter of 2015. However, according to latest updates, Anglo American – another mining major, produced 5.5 MnT of Met coal in Q4 2015. The quantity is 1% higher than September quarter. Anglo American produced 4.3 MnT of hard coking coal and 1.2 of PCI in last quarter of 2015.

Coking coal imports by India and China
Unremitting downfall in Chinese demand for coking coal has made India a preferred destination for Met coal trade. Steelmint assessed that India, the 3rd largest coking coal importer, imported about 36.6 MnT of coking coal in FY16 till date. However, China, the top most coking coal importer, imported 36.5 MnT in the duration till date.
