Lower availability and poor quality makes manufactures shift from sponge iron to scrap

Indian manufacturers are shifting
their interest from sponge iron (DRI) to scrap over various reasons like:

a)  Lower availability of sponge
iron due to shortage of Iron ore 

b) Most of the mines are closed
across India and this has forced sponge iron manufacturers to buy low grade iron ore resulting into manufacturing of poor quality of sponge iron.

Therefore the above reasons are compelling most of the manufactures, specially in central and eastern India to focus on
imported scrap.
