Total trading volumes at the London Metal Exchange rose 7.4 percent on the year to a new record high of 120.3 million lots over 2010, the exchange said on Thursday.
The total value of trade jumped to $11.6 trillion from $7.4 trillion in 2009 the exchange said in a news release.
Volumes of the LME’s global steel billet contract grew, with 191,221 lots traded, equivalent to 12.4 million tonnes or $6 billion.
In February, the exchange is due to launch its joint futures products on Singapore’s SGX exchange.
