Liberty Steel makes non-binding offer for loss-making Thyssenkrupp

Sanjeev Gupta-owned 13 mn t pa Liberty Steel has made a non-binding offer for European steel major Thyssenkrupp’s steel unit, according to media reports. A deal could combine Europe’s fourth and second-largest steel-makers after a planned JV with Tata Steel failed in 2019. Loss-making Thyssenkrupp is considering stake sale to the German government and also exploring tie-ups with Germany’s Salzgitter, Sweden’s SSAB and Tata Steel once again.
