According to statistics, Korea imported around 981,000 tonnes of scraps in April, rising by 2.4% YoY and increasing by 16.3% from a month ago.
Among total imports, 529,000 tonnes were from Japan, increasing by 26%; 250,000 tonnes were from the US, falling by 9.2%; 88,000 tonnes were from Russia, jumping by 78.9%, all compared to those in the same period of a year ago.
In the first four months of this year, the country's scrap imports amounted to 3.297 million tonnes, down by 1.9% YoY.
Korea is second largest importer of ferrous scrap in the world, importing over 10 million tonnes after Turkey.
