Odisha based merchant miner-Kalinga Mining Corporation (KMC) has resumed iron ore bookings after one year. Mines were closed since May 2014, after Supreme Court asked Odisha government to suspend all mines running under second deemed renewal.
The mines are allowed to resume iron ore sales after their lease deed gets processed, after payment of stamp-duty. The state government had allowed reopening of 29 mines including 26, which had remained closed following the Supreme Court’s verdict in May’14. The mines will be reopened as per the provisions of the new Mines & Mineral (Development & Regulation) Act, 2015. The act has allowed operation of the non-captive mines till 2020 and captive mines till 2030.
