JSW Steel has reported 15 per cent growth in production for August to 7.63 lakh tonnes (LT) over the same period a year ago.
The Mumbai-based steelmaker had produced about 6.64 LT of crude steel in August, 2011.
Output of flat products grew 6 per cent to 5.14 LT and of long products by 19 per cent to 1.48 LT, JSW Steel said in a statement.
“The company achieved crude steel production of 3.58 million tonnes in the first five months of current financial year, showing a growth of 22 per cent over the corresponding period of last year,” the company added.
Led by Sajjan Jindal, JSW Steel operates a 10 million tonnes (MT) plant at Karnataka's Vijaynagar and a 1 MT capacity at Salem in Tamil Nadu.
Last week, it had announced to merge subsidiary JSW Ispat with itself. Post merger, JSW Steel will have a production capacity of 14.3 MT and it will become the second largest domestic steelmaker after state-owned SAIL.
For the current fiscal, the company has kept a target of producing 8.75 MT of crude steel, while its production in the last fiscal was 7.43 MT.
