JSW Steel’s Iron Ore Sourcing in June’15

JSW Steel procured 0.8 MnT iron ore in June’15 against 2.7 MnT in May’15.

India’s leading steelmaker, JSW Steel, procured 0.8 MnT iron ore in the month of June’15. Out of the total procurement, 0.62 MnT was from Karnataka e-auctions, 0.16 MnT was through import and the remaining share of 0.02 MnT was procured via railway movement from NMDC Chhattisgarh mines. Purchases from Odisha and Jharkhand remained nil.

In May’15, JSW had bought 2.19 MnT iron ore via Karnataka e-auctions, 0.12 MnT from NMDC Chhattisgarh mines and imported 0.35 MnT iron ore. It seems that the steelmaker had enough stock of iron ore, owing to which it had reduced its purchases in June’15.

The steel giant has an installed capacity of 14.3 MnT pa and produced 12.63 MnT crude steel in last fiscal, and plans to raise its production to 13.4 MnT in this fiscal. Out of the estimated figure, the steelmaker produced 3.4 MnT crude steel in Q1 FY16.
