JSW Steel, India’s largest private sector Steel producer with an annual capacity of 14.3 MnT, has resumed Iron ore purchases from NMDC (Chhattisgarh) after a period of six months. It may be noted that NMDC has cut Iron ore prices upto 27% in last three months in order to compete rising imports to India.
In Apr’15 (till 27) NMDC loaded 7 rakes to JSW’s Dolvi plant. Rakes were transported to Vizag port and from there Ore will be shipped to Dolvi via sea route. Cost of landed Iron ore fines of 64% would be around INR 4,400 (USD 70/MT) to JSW’s Dolvi plant, which is equivalent to landed cost of imported Iron ore of same grade.

JSW’s Iron ore imports fell to 200,000 MT in March against 1,100,000 MT in Feb’15 and in April only one shipment of 88,000 MT has been recorded.
