After company’s capacity expansion at Vijaynagar, Salem and Dolvi plant, its total crude steel production capacity is likely to increase to 18 MnT from current level of 14.3 MnT.
JSW Steel, India’s third largest steel major has re-commissioned two of its blast furnaces at Vijaynagar and Salem which were shut down since Aug’15 and Nov’15 for relining and modification purpose. While re-commissioning of blast furnace at Dolvi plant is expected to be operational soon.
Vijaynagar Plant, Karnataka
The 10 MnT Vijaynagar works was slated for its capacity expansion by additional 2 MnT making it total 12 MTPA in 2013-14. However due to continued iron ore shortage in India (result of mining ban in Karnataka by the government), the plan was put on hold during the year.
The company was relying on iron ore imports in order to meet its raw material requirements. However now the domestic iron ore situation has improved with the commencement of auctioning of iron ore mines in India.
The expansion plan at VIjaynagr plant has been completed and the capacity added will contribute to additional production of long products.
The Vijaynagar works produces range of products such as slabs, billets, HRC, CRCA coils and sheets, wire rods and bar rods.
Salem Plant, Tamil Nadu
The company has added 0.1 MnT to its existing capacity of 0.9 MnT in Salem plant and the plant is expected to roll out more semi-finished product in the form of blooms.
Dolvi Plant, Maharashtra
In 2014 the company rolled out its capacity expansion plan to 5 MnT from the current 3.3 MnT with a proposed investment of Rs.3,300 crore. As per the JSW official, Dolvi plant expansion is also expected to get completed shortly. This plant is likely to add to the production of flat products.
