According to the latest reports, Japan’s Tohoku Steel’s Indian subsidiary, Tohoku Steel India (TSI) inaugurated a new heat resistant steel rod manufacturing unit in Sri City, Andhra Pradesh. The plant will carry out secondary processing on heat-resistant steel rods and soft magnetic stainless steel rods, and will produce rods in required sizes specified by its customers.
The present capacity of the plant is 360 tonnes and will be increased to 2,000 tonnes in phases. The rods manufactured will be used as a raw material for fabricating automobile engine valves and fuel injection systems. The total investment involved in the same is Rs.80 crore and the automated plant employs about 50 people.
The company’s customers will include Nittan India, Rane Engine Valve, Durovalves and Shiriram Pistons & Rings. The foundation of TSI’s plant in Sri City was laid two years back in 2017.
According to TSI’s management, the company has been exporting its products to India from Japan over last four years and in order to increase competitiveness in the expanding Indian market, a plant has been set up in Indian city and it will expand activities to improve productivity, upgrade facilities, and acquire new orders.
The Tohoku Steel plant, which is built in a 6-acre plot in the Domestic Tariff Zone (DTZ) is the 17th Japanese company in Sri City, and yet another addition to auto component production company here. With the presence of major OEMs, such as Isuzu, Kobelco Group and more than 17 automotive ancillary industries from Japan, South Africa, India, and Bahrain, there exists a strong ecosystem for automobile sector in Sri City.
Tohoku Steel Co Ltd was founded in 1937 in Murata, Japan. It is principally engaged in the manufacture and sale of specialty steel. It is a well-known brand in producing steel rods and bars for making automobile engine valves the world over. Through innovative and sophisticated technological developments, Tohoku Steel has been able to develop critical grades of alloy. Their main products are heat resistant steel for automobile engine valves and soft magnetic stainless steel for automobile fuel injector.
