Japan’s Crude Steel Output Increased Marginally in Aug’17

Japan – world’s 2nd largest steel producer after China has witnessed marginal growth in its crude steel output in Aug’17. According to recent statistics, Japan’s crude steel output was recorded at 8.73 MnT last month compared to 8.59 MnT in Jul’17. On monthly premises, country’s crude steel output increased by 2%.

However on yearly premises, crude steel production in Japan has come down by 2% as it was 8.91 MnT in Aug’16.

Output of hot rolled steel products was recorded at 7.82 MnT in Aug’17 against 7.49 MnT in the previous month.

During Jan-Aug’17, Japan’s crude steel output stood at 69.6 MnT compared to 69.95 MnT in the same time frame previous year, down by 1% Y-o-Y.

As per reports, Japan’s JFE Steel will suspend operations at its East Japan works blast furnace for maintenance shutdown. This is likely to impact 6% f company’s monthly production. JFE Steel is ranked 2nd largest steel producer in Japan after Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation. Other major steel producing companies include – Kobe Steel and Nisshin Steel Co.

Japan produced 104.77 MnT crude steel in CY16.
