Japan’s Coal Import Up By 4% in Oct’16

Japan monthly coal imports recorded a growth of 4% in Oct’16. Besides yearly imports risen by 7% compared to Oct’15.

Japan, the world’s third largest coal importers, coal imports stood at 17.9 MnT in Oct’16. The country’s total monthly imports increased by 4% on monthly basis. While yearly imports up by 7% which was at 16.7 MnT in Oct’15.

In the month of Oct’16, out of the total import, the country imported 11.3 MnT Bituminous, 4.3 MnT coking and about 0.8 MnT coke & anthracite.

Quantity in MnT

Japan’s coal imports, including Bituminous, Coking, Anthracite, Coke, Pet coke and other grades. In the first ten months of 2016 (Jan’16-Oct’16), the coal imports is down by 1% to 163.2 MnT, compared with the same period in 2016.

Major exporting countries in Oct’16
Australia was the largest supplier to Japan in Oct’16, shipped about 11.3 MnT coal with a marginal growth of 3% compared with Sep’16 and also rise by 10.6% on yearly basis.

Moreover Australia caters more than 60% share of the total coal imports of Japan. Also recorded as top supplied about 101 MnT coal over Jan’16-Oct’16.

Indonesia, the second-largest coal exporter to Japan, exported about 2.5 MnT coal in Oct’16 with a remarkable growth of 11% M-o-M. While yearly exports has noted a fall of 7% which was 2.7 MnT in Oct’15.

Russia, the third largest coal exporter to Japan, shipped around 1.9 MnT coal in during the month, sharply up by 14.6% M-o-M and by 20.8% Y-o-Y.
