Japan: Tokyo Steel’s 4th Price Cut for Scrap Purchase in April

As per new price circular released, Japan’s leading EAF steel mini-mill – Tokyo Steel has lowered domestic scrap purchase price by JPY 1000/MT (USD 9) at Tahara works and Kyushu works in Japan. While prices have been lowered by JPY 500/MT at remaining three works, new prices for all grades shall be effective from tomorrow (13th Apr’19).

With a recent price cut, the company will pay JPY 33,000/MT (USD 295) at Tahara in central Japan and Kyushu works in the Western region. While JPY 31,500/MT (USD 281) for H2 delivered to Utsunomiya plant in the Kanto region, JPY 32,000/MT for Okayama plant and JPY 30,500/MT at Takamatsu steel center.

Presently, Japanese H2 scrap market purchase prices are being reported in the range of JPY 31,000-32,000/MT (USD 277-286) in the Kanto region while H2 purchase price in Gulf region is trading at around JPY 31,000-31,500/MT. Participants anticipate that Japanese scrap prices may continue downtrend provided aggressive restocking ahead of Golden week holidays.
