- Tahara prices unchanged amid stronger local procurement needs
Tokyo Steel, Japan’s largest electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmaker, reduced its H2 scrap purchase prices by JPY 500/t ($3/t) at its Utsunomiya Plant and Tokyo Bay Satellite unit in Kanto, effective 23 July. Following the revision, H2 buying prices declined to JPY 52,000/t ($317/t) at Utsunomiya and JPY 51,500/t ($316/t) at the Tokyo Bay Satellite. Purchase prices at all other plants, including Tahara, Nagoya, Okayama, Kansai, Takamatsu, and Kyushu, remained unchanged.
The selective price cut suggests softer scrap demand in the Kanto region, while Tokyo Steel maintained stable buying prices at its other facilities. Tahara continued to offer the highest H2 purchase price at JPY 54,000/t ($331/t), reflecting relatively stronger local procurement requirements, as the company continued to closely align its buying strategy with regional market conditions.
