Japanese raw material to finished steel imports rise in Jul’19, as per custom data maintained with SteelMint.
Coal – Japanese coal imports have surged by 25.49% and registered at 18.46 MnT in Jul’19 compared with 14.71 MnT in Jun’19, boosted by an increased receipt of non-coking coal shipments. Import volumes had also increased 12.76% Y-o-Y from 16.37 MnT in Jul’18.
Notably, non-coking coal imports rose on the year for the first time since Jan’19, as the fuel’s cost advantage over LNG for thermal generation supported demand amid a dip in nuclear availability.
Iron ore – Japanese monthly iron ore import stood at 10.58 MnT in Jul’19, up by 16% against 9.12 MnT in Jun’19. Also on yearly premises import rise 14.50% in Jul’19 as compared to 9.24 MnT in Jul’18.
Finish long Steel – The country’s finished steel imports grew by 16-17% M-o-M on account of declined in crude steel production by 4.55% to 8.39 MnT in Jul’19 as against 8.79 MnT in Jun’19.
As per data, Japanese finish long steel imports surged by 16.67% to 0.07 MnT in Jul’19 as against 0.06 MnT in Jun’19.
Also on yearly basis, the country’s import enlarged by 75% in Jul’19 as compared to 0.04 MnT in Jul’18.
Commodity wise – Rebar imports increased by 33.34% to 0.04 MnT in Jul’19 against 0.03 MnT in Jun’19, followed by Structure(Angle/ Channel) import elongated by 100% to 0.02 MnT in Jul’19 against 0.01 MnT in Jun’19 and Wire rod import is recorded at 0.02 MnT in Jul’19 which remained stable against previous month.
Load Country wise – South Korea stood as top exporter of finish long steel to Japan with 0.03 MnT in Jul’19 stretched up by 50% compared to 0.02 MnT in Jun’19 followed by China at 0.02 MnT in Jul’19 (up 100%) against 0.01 MnT in Jun’19 and Vietnam 0.01 MnT in Jul’19 stable against Jun’19.
Finish Flat Steel – Import of flat steel in Japan rose in Jul’19 with robust demand from construction and infrastructure sector amid increased public spending to rebuild the disaster impacted provinces ahead of the Tokyo Olympics to be held in 2020.
On monthly basis country’s import of finish flat steel is registered at 0.37 MnT in Jul’19 up by 5.71% against 0.35 MnT in Jun’19.
On Contrary, yearly premises import down by 5.12% in Jul’19 against 0.39 MnT in Jul’18.
Ferro Alloy – On monthly basis ferro alloy imports by Japan registered at 0.21 MnT in Jul’19, surged by 40% against 0.15 MnT in Jun’19.
On Contrary, yearly premises import decline by 25% in Jul’19 as compared to 0.28 MnT in Jun’19.
Finish Flat Stainless Steel – Nation’s import of finish flat stainless steel stood at 0.02 MnT in Jul’19 notified a mammoth hike by 100% against 0.01 MnT in Jun’19 and on yearly basis the country’s import remained unchanged against previous year of same month i:e; 0.02 MnT in Jul’18.
Finish Long Stainless Steel – Japan import its finish long stainless steel on monthly basis in Jul’19 is 2,086 MT down by 2.84% against 2,147 MT in Jun’19. In line, yearly premises import down by 3.4% in Jul’19 as compared to 2,159 MT in Jul’18.
