Japan: Semi Finish Steel Exports Declined Marginally in Apr’17

Japan is world’s 2nd largest steel producing country as well as 2nd largest steel exporter.

According to latest customs data released by Japan Customs, semi finish exports of steel which includes billets, bloom and slabs, have decreased marginally by 0.4% M-o-M basis to 0.322 MnT in Apr’17 as compared to 0.323 MnT in Mar’17.

On yearly basis, nation’s semi finished steel exports have fallen significantly by 10% in Apr’17 against Apr’16. In Apr’16 the same stood at 0.35 MnT.

During CY17 (Jan-Apr), nation’s semi finished steel imports have come down by 16% to 1.29 MnT against 1.55 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.

Taiwan is the major importer of Japanese semi-finished steel and has imported 132,181 MT of semi finished steel in Apr’17 against 109,035 MT in Mar’17. Other major countries include Korea, Philippines and Thailand.
