Japan’s largest steelmaker Nippon Steel expects steel demand to recover in the second half of the year however, it could still remain at a lower level compared to the pre-pandemic period. The company plans to restart its halted blast furnaces if demand recovers in H2. Nippon Steel has suspended operations at few blast furnaces earlier in H1 CY’20 following decline in demand due to pandemic.
