Japan: Maruichi raises seamless stainless steel pipe prices by over 10%

  • Raw material, logistics cost inflation drives price revision
  • Further hikes possible amid crude oil-linked cost pressures

Japan Metal Daily: Maruichi Stainless Steel Pipe has announced a price increase of over 10% on seamless stainless steel pipes across all grades, effective for May contracts. The hike covers all product categories, including nickel-based and duplex grades, across domestic and export markets.

The revision comes amid rising alloying element prices, along with continued increases in labour, auxiliary materials, and logistics costs. The company indicated that passing on higher costs is necessary to maintain a stable supply chain and sustainable operations.

Demand remains steady, supported by semiconductor investments in Asia and automotive applications such as gasoline direct injection systems. Additionally, consumption in piping and boiler segments linked to renewable energy and industrial sectors remains firm.

Outlook

Further price hikes cannot be ruled out, particularly if crude oil-linked cost pressures escalate amid ongoing geopolitical tensions.
