Japan: Manganese alloys imports decrease in May’21

Japan’s silico manganese imports slipped 18.8 % m-o-m while ferro manganese imports fell by 9.9% on month in May’21, as per customs data maintained with SteelMint. Increasing prices of manganese alloys dampened the buying interest of Japanese steelmakers resulting in a decline in import volumes. Moreover, South Africa remained the sole manganese ore importer to Japan. Japan’s manganese ore imports increased by 5.17% m-o-m to 58,174 t in May.
