Japan, second largest iron ore importer of the world imported 10.72 MnT iron ore in Mar’17 against 9.48 MnT in Feb’17. There was an increase of 13% in iron ore imports M-o-M.
However Y-o-Y compared to Mar’16, Japan iron ore imports were down by 5%. In Mar’16, the country imported 11.33 MnT iron ore.
For the first quarter of 2017, the country imported 30.41 MnT iron ore, down 5% as it was 32 MnT in the same period last year.
The non-agglomerated iron ore import in the month of Mar’17 was registered at 9.62 MnT against 8.22 MnT in Feb’17 up 17% M-o-M but down 5% Y-o-Y against Mar’16 which was at 10.11 MnT. The agglomerated iron ore imports were registered at 1.10 MnT in Mar’17 compared to 1.26 MnT in Feb’17 down 13% M-o-M and 10% Y-o-Y against Mar’16.
Australian iron ore exports to Japan have witnessed a growth of 18% M-o-M which was 6.41 MnT in Mar’17 and 5.45 MnT in Feb’1, it were down 7% Y-o-Y compared the same month last year. The nation exported around 6.88 MnT iron ore in Mar’16.
Brazil exported 2.94 MnT iron ore to Japan in Mar’17 up 14% M-o-M but down by 12% Y-o-Y compared to the month of Mar’16 which was 3.35 MnT.
Ukraine moved up and was the third largest iron ore exporter to Japan in Mar’17 and exported 0.37 MnT iron ore against 0.21 MnT in Feb’17 up 74% M-o-M. Ukraine exported no iron ore in to Japan in Mar’16
Chile turned out to be the fourth largest iron ore to Japan in Mar’17 and exported 0.36 MnT iron ore up 58% against 0.23 MnT in Feb’17, it was increase Y-o-Y as well by 79%. Chile exported 0.20 MnT iron ore to Japan in Mar’17.
