Japan halts coal-fired plants’ financing in Indonesia, Bangladesh

Japan will stop providing government-backed yen loans to Bangladesh’s Matarbari 2 coal expansion project and Indramayu plant in Indonesia, in a bid to accelerate its effort to phase-out of coal, the government said this week. Both the countries were conducting surveys for the projects with Japan’s backing, but construction activity of the projects was yet to begin.
