Japan flat steel import volumes witnessed fall of 3% in Jan’18 compared to Dec’17. South Korea remained largest flat steel exporter to Japan in Jan’18.
According to the latest customs data, Japan flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) move down by 3% M-o-M basis to 0.34 MnT in Jan’18 as compared to 0.35 MnT in Dec’17.
According to Ministry of economy, trade and industry (METI ) Japan’s domestic consumption is expected to come down to 12.44 MnT in Jan-Mar’18 quarter compared to 12.58 MnT in previous quarter.
On yearly basis nation’s flat steel imports went down by 13% in Jan’18 to 0.34 MnT against 0.39 MnT in Jan’17.
In CY17 nation’s flat steel imports stood at 4.42 MnT up by 4% against 4.27 MnT in CY16.

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel imports Japan in Jan’18– In Jan’18,South Korea exported 0.23 MnT which contributed 67.95 % share.
Besides this,second largest exporter was Taiwan which stood at 0.09 MnT (accounted for 25.94% of share) and China at 0.02 MnT (contributed 5.37% of share) in Jan’18.
