As per latest customs data, Japan flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) witness the growth of 6% on monthly basis in May’18.
Country’s flat steel imports stood at 0.37 MnT in May’18 against 0.35 MnT in Apr’18.
However on yearly basis the same remained stable in May’18 and May’17 at 0.37 MnT.
Nation’s strong domestic demand has lead to surge in flat steel import volumes from major exporting nations.
During first five months of CY18 (Jan-May) nation’s flat steel imports stood a 1.72 MnT decreases by 8% against 1.87 MnT in similar time frame of previous year.

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel imports in May’18- In May’18,South Korea was the major flat steel exporter to Japan.Thus japan imported around 0.23 MnT which remain unaltered since past two months.
Second largest exporter was Taiwan exported around 0.09 MnT of flat steel in May’18 higher by 29% against 0.07 MnT in Apr’18.
Lastly,China exported 0.04 MnT to Japan in May’18, lower by 20% against 0.05 MnT in previous month.
