Japan is world’s 2nd largest steel producing country after China and recorded annual crude steel output of 104.8 MnT in CY16.
According to the latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have reported an increase of 5%, M-o-M basis to 2.29 MnT in Mar’17 against 2.18 MnT in Feb’17.
If yearly comparison is made, Japan flat steel exports dropped down drastically by 11% in Mar’17 against previous year. In Mar’16 the same stood at 2.57 MnT.
However, on Q-o-Q basis (Jan-Mar’17) nation’s flat steel exports have registered a decline of 5% to 6.61 MnT against 6.93 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.
Grade-Wise Japan Flat Steel Exports
As per grade-wise analysis, 7208 exports declined by 0.29% M-o-M in Mar’17 against Feb’17 whereas 7209,7210,7212 and 7225 have witnessed the growth in Mar’17 against previous month.

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel Exports
Thailand was the major flat steel importer and 3,84,299/MT was imported from Japan in Mar’17 against 3,40,976/MT of flat steel in Feb’17. Other major flat steel importing countries from Japan include China, Korea followed by Vietnam and Mexico.
