Japan is world’s 2nd largest steel producing country after China and recorded annual crude steel output of 104.8 MnT in CY16.
According to the latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) have reported a decline of 8%, Y-o-Y basis to 2.00 MnT in Apr’17 against 2.17 MnT in Apr’16.
If monthly comparison is made, Japan flat steel exports dropped down drastically by 13% in Apr’17 against last month. In Mar’17 the same stood at 2.29 MnT.
During (Jan-Apr’17) nation’s flat steel exports dropped by 5.3% to 8.61 MnT against 9.1 MnT in similar time-frame of previous year.
Grade-Wise Japan Flat Steel Exports in Apr’17-As per grade-wise analysis, 7208 exports declined by 9.8% M-o-M in Apr’17 against Mar’17 whereas 7209,7210,7212 and 7225 have witnessed the reduction in Apr’17 against previous month.

Country-Wise Japan Flat Steel Exports in Apr’17
China was the major flat steel importer and 3,59,987 MT of flat steel was imported from Japan in Apr’17 against 3,64,201/MT of flat steel in Mar’17. Other major flat steel importing countries from Japan include Thailand,Korea followed by Mexico and Vietnam
