Japan: Flat steel exports decline 13% in Apr’21 on improved domestic consumption

Japan’s finished flat steel exports stood at 1.99 mn t in Apr ’21. Exports volumes slipped 13% on month against 2.28 mn t in Mar ’21.

SteelMint notes that there were limited allocations for exports on improved domestic demand, especially firm demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors. In addition, higher export offers were not attractive for ASEAN buyers.

Japan’s major export markets in Apr ’21 were Thailand with 0.42 mn t of imports followed by China and South Korea with 0.33 mn t and 0.19 mn t respectively.
