According to latest customs data released, Japan flat steel exports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates),7209 (CR coils),7225 (Electrical sheets),7210/7212(GP/GC) 2.02 MnT in Jul’18 against previous month.
In Jul’18 nation exported 2.02 MnT flat steel down by 5% on monthly basis against 2.13 MnT in Jun’18.
However on yearly basis nation’s flat steel export volumes inch up by 2% against 1.98 MnT in Jul’17.
During first seven months of Jan-Jul’18,nation’s flat steel exports stood at 14.46 MnT inch down by 3% which was 14.86 MnT in same time frame of previous year.
METI forecast on steel demand and exports for quarter ending September-As per METI (Ministry of economy trade and industry) nation’s steel exports will increase marginally on yearly basis. However compared to previous quarter exports will increase in quarter ending Sept.
Meanwhile demand in construction sector will also remain flat on Y-o-Y basis amid low demand in new housing sectors.However steady movements are estimated in urban redevelopment in the Tokyo area, properties related to the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.However compared to previous quarter, steel demand in the construction sector will increase due to seasonal factors.
However in manufacturing sector demand may improve marginally amid demand in industrial machinery.Although demand in shipbuilding will remain flat in coming quarter

Country-wise Japan flat steel exports in Jul’18- China remained the largest flat steel importer of Japan and procured 0.33 MnT in Jul’18 fell by 8.3% against 0.36 MnT in Jun’18.
Second largest importer was Thailand at 0.35 MnT in Jul’18 higher by 6% as compared to 0.33 MnT in previous month.
Third largest importer was South Korea at 0.23 MnT,in Jul’18 down by 15% against 0.27 MnT a month ago.
Other major importers were Vietnam at 0.20 MnT ,Indonesia at 0.14 MnT followed by Mexico at 0.15 MnT,Malaysia at 0.08 MnT and India at 0.10 MnT in Jul’18.
