Japan: Finish Long Steel Imports Gain by around 11% in May 2018

Japan, the world’s 2nd largest steel producer has inflated its long steel imports in the month of May’18 on monthly premises.

As per the customs, the nation has imported about 56,851 MT Finish Long steel in May 2018 increased by 11.13% against 51,155 MT in Apr 2018. In line Y-o-Y, imports enlarged by around 48.62% against 38,251 MT in May’17.

Bar’s & Rods have contributed the major imports proportionate and registered at 20,587 MT (36.21%) followed by Wire Rod 19,144 MT (33.68%) and remaining was Structure (Angle and Shapes) 17,121 MT (30.11%).

Country wise:

In the month of May 2018, the largest exporter of Finish Long Steel by South Korea – 28,678 MT, China – 19,393 MT & Vietnam at 4,148 MT.

Trade Update

Japan’s H2 scrap export offers from suppliers assessed stable in the range of 35,000-36,000/MT (USD 315-324) FoB for Kanto region while H2 prices stood at around JPY 34,500-35,500/MT (USD 310-319) for Gulf region in Japan as per May’18 assessment.
