Japan: Finish Long Steel Exports Slump about 5% in July 2018

Japan, the world’s 3rd largest steel producer has deflated its long steel exports in the month of Jul’18 on monthly premises.

As per the customs, the nation has exported about 0.18 MnT Finish Long steel in July 2018 decreased by 5.26% against 0.19 MnT in June 2018. In line Y-o-Y, exports were fell with same proportionate i:e; 5.26% against 0.19 MnT in Jul’17.

Under Finish Long commodities following HS Codes has been considered – Bar & Rod (HS Code 7213 & 7214), MS Wire (HS Code 7217) along with Angle & Shapes (HS Code 7215 & 7216).

During July, Bar’s & Rods have contributed the major exports proportionate and registered at 0.14 MnT (+7.69%) followed by Angle and Shapes 0.04 MnT (-20%) and remaining was Wire Rod 0.01 MnT (0%).

As per the SteelMint’s assessment, in July 2018 the crude steel production of the Japan registered at 8.42 MnT which is fall slightly by around 3.88% M-o-M, against 8.76 MnT in June 2018.

Country wise:

In the month of July 2018, the largest importer of Finish Long Steel from Japan was South Korea – 0.05 MnT, Thailand – 0.03 MnT & China at 0.02 MnT.

— As per last assessment, Japan’s Tokyo Steel cuts scrap purchase price at Utsunomiya works – Leading EAF steel mini-mill – Tokyo Steel has cut scrap by JPY 500/MT (USD 5) at Kanto region based works i.e. Utsunomiya.

Now it fetches H2 at JPY 37,500/MT (USD 338) at Utsunomiya and at JPY 36,500/MT for largest works in central Japan-Tahara.

— As per last assessment, Japan’s HRC (2mm) export offers was at about USD 610-615/MT FOB.
