According to the latest customs data, Japan flat steel imports which includes 7208 (HR coils /Plates), 7209 (CR coils), 7225 (Electrical sheets), 7210/7212(GP/GC) reported hike of 4% in CY17.
Nation has imported 4.42 MnT of flat steel in CY17 in comparison 4.27 MnT in CY16.
On monthly premise nation’s flat steel imports went down by 8% in Dec’17 to 0.35 MnT against 0.38 MnT in Nov’17.
Although on yearly basis nation’s flat steel imports moved up slightly by 3% in Dec’17 against 0.34 MnT in preceding year.

Country-Wise Flat Steel imports of Japan in CY17– In CY17 South Korea exported 3 MnT which contributed 67.69 % of share. Besides this other importers of flat steel from Japan were Taiwan which stood at 0.94 MnT (accounted for 21.29% of share) and China at 0.46 MnT (contributes 10.43% of share) in CY17.
In the month of Dec’17,Japan has imported 3 MnT of flat steel from South Korea which was 0.23 MnT in previous month.Other major countries include Taiwan which stood at 0.08 MnT and China at 0.03 MnT in Dec’17.
