Japan – a major exporter of ferrous scrap, exported 4.62 MnT ferrous scrap during the period of first seven months of CY17 (Jan-Jul’17). A drop of 13 % Y-o-Y has been noted in its exports against 5.33 MnT ferrous scrap exports in the same period in CY16. Higher scrap export prices may be one of the reasons behind the Y-o-Y drop in export volumes.
According to recently released customs data, Japan has exported 0.69 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17.Exports showed a marginal growth of 5 % M-o-M against 0.66 MnT in Jun’17.
On the yearly basis, Japan has exported higher in Jul’17, exports were up by 10 % Y-o-Y, as the country had exported 0.63 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’16.
Japan mainly exports special grade H2 scrap along with other preferred grades as shredded, HS, Sindachi and H1. Major ports for scrap exports were Tokyo, Kobe, Osaka, Yokohama, and Nagoya.
South Korea remained preferred destination for Japan’s ferrous scrap exports-
South Korea continued to be the topmost destination for the Japanese ferrous scrap exports again with 2.24 MnT exports during Jan-Jul’17 followed by China(1.03 MnT) and Vietnam(0.82 MnT).
South Korea imported 0.28 MnT ferrous scrap in Jul’17.China’s scrap imports from Japan dropped 14% M-o-M in Jul’17 while that of Vietnam has imported almost double ferrous scrap in Jul’17 against 0.09 MnT exports in Jun ’17.
Taiwan, increased Japanese ferrous scrap imports by 17 % M-o-M in Jul’17 and imported 0.07 MnT against 0.06 MnT in Jun’17.Bangladesh imported 0.02 MnT ferrous scrap again in Jul’17.While, Thailand imported 0.01 MnT scrap from Japan in Jul’17 which were nil for 4 months from Mar’17.
